🍲 How to Make Ewedu

 

✅ Ingredients

Fresh ewedu leaves (jute leaves)

Water

A pinch of salt

Potash (optional, helps soften the leaves)

Ground crayfish (optional)

Locust beans (iru) – optional

 

 

👩‍🍳 Preparation Method

 

  1. Wash the ewedu leaves thoroughly to remove dirt.
  2. Put a small amount of water in a pot and bring to boil.
  3. Add the ewedu leaves into the boiling water.
  4. If using, add a tiny pinch of potash to help soften the leaves.
  5. Allow the leaves to cook for about 3–5 minutes.
  6. Blend or mash the cooked leaves using a blender, broomstick blender, or traditional ewedu broom (ijabe).
  7. Add salt, crayfish, or locust beans if desired.
  8. Stir well and cook for another 1–2 minutes.
  9. Your ewedu soup is ready to serve!
